General remarks about essential oils
Chemical composition
Essential oils have a complex chemical composition. Their components belong most of the time to two groups, which do not have the same biogenetic origins. On the one hand, there is the group of terpenoids. On the other hand, there is the group of aromatic components (less common), derived from the phenylpropanoids. Essential oils can also be composed of various molecules resulting from a degradation process which makes appear non volatile components.
